Experience: I have loved everything about art since I can remember. As a grade-schooler I took private art lessons from a local artist, and was hooked. Having an amazing art teacher in high school led me to look into a career where I could use what talent I had in a constructive way. I decided to go to Iowa State University, as they were one of only three colleges in the country at the time that actually had an interior design degree. Although I only worked in design for about a year, I still love to dabble. After having a child, nights and weekends working weren’t an option, so I switched to the career of my father and grandfather, insurance. I worked as a customer service representative for 25 years, until I decided there had to be more to life. After leaving insurance I worked as a licensed therapeutic massage specialist for about 12 years, which I did really enjoy. I started helping Jess with her office work, emails, scheduling and accounting about four years ago. All the time spent in customer service helped her be able to focus on the artistic side of the business, and I took over the office duties.
Passionate About: I’m mostly passionate about my family. That includes Jess, her two older brothers, 8 grandchildren and my husband. My second love is my dogs. I have raised Miniature Australian Shepherds for 20 years. Between Jess’ studio, family and our dogs I’m plenty busy!
What I love about monroe + co: Mostly I love working with my daughter and our two stylists who are now my daughters too (although sometimes they wish they weren’t). I love to see the beautiful art that is created here, the happy families, new moms and dads, brides and seniors that have memories from monroe + co that will last a lifetime. While I am culling images, Jess will often walk by and comment on the fact that I'm sitting there smiling. I do smile at the happy children, families, silly poses and crazy wedding reception dancers. She can also find me crying happy tears at a father/daughter dance, or a mothers look at a newborn baby, and so many other images she captures. Working here is crazy, fun, stressful and fulfilling. I hope I never have to retire.
Facts About Nancy: I camp nearly every weekend from May to October. If I didn’t I’d never see my husband. We ride a Spyder (three wheeled motorcycle). Larry and I have ridden together for years, but took a break to be a boating family for awhile. Now we are back at it again! I have 8 grandchildren. They are the loves of my life, and keep me young. I love to travel, anywhere and everywhere. I love to drive and see how beautiful this country of ours is, so whenever Jess gets the bug to go on a road trip to shoot some pictures, I’m all in. I was raised on a beautiful lake in Wisconsin and spent my childhood sailing in competition, and waterskiing. Neither is terrific preparation for adulthood, but both make for a fun childhood. Anything else you would like to know about me, come on down to Bobbers and join us for a drink around the campfire on the weekends!
