CHILDREN & FAMILIES

We LOVE watching our clients grow, and documenting their expanding families.  I could only hope that someday I’ll be photographing the wedding of client I photographed as a newborn, and then get to see them become parents as well.  This job allows me to be ‘Aunt Jess’ to many of our tiny clients, and close friends to lots of our Mommies.
Here are the options we offer for child + family sessions.

CHILDREN SESSION
Our Children’s Session is $125 and includes up to 1 hour of shooting, 3 outfits, 1-2 locations and an in-studio viewing and ordering appointment.  This shoot includes only images of the child alone.  For additional children (sibling photos or individuals of another child) there is a $50 fee.  The session fee is due at time of booking in order to secure your date and time.  The day of your session, $100.00 is paid toward your print and products, to be ordered at your viewing and ordering appointment.
FAMILY SESSION
Our family session is $175 for up to 1 hour of shooting, 2 outfits at a single location, and an in-studio viewing and ordering appointment.  This session includes individual images of each child, siblings together, full family, parents and any other breakdown you wish.  The session fee is due at time of booking in order to secure your date and time.  The day of your session, $100.00 is paid toward your print and products, to be ordered at your viewing and ordering appointment.
EXTENDED FAMILY SESSION
Our Extended Family session is $250 and includes up to 1 1/2 hours of shooting, 2 outfits at a single location, and an in-studio viewing and ordering appointment.  This includes images of the extended family as well as each family group, couples, grandchildren, individuals of each child and any other combination you’d like.  Many of our extended family clients do one outfit for the large family portion and a different outfit for smaller family groups and individual shots.  The session fee is due at time of booking in order to secure your date and time.  The day of your session, $100.00 is paid toward your print and products, to be ordered at your viewing and ordering appointment.

CHILD & FAMILY Q&A

I want to have pictures of my children but a few of the whole family, do I have to use the Family session?
Yes.  There is more prep work that goes into a family session with coordinating outfits, and location decision depends on what type of shoot we are doing.  Artistically there is also a different mindset for a family session than a child session, as our style of child session is very natural and playful rather than traditional and posed.

What should we wear?
Monroe can help you with that.  You can send snapshots of what you are thinking, or we can do a pinterest board for you.  Layers, textures and patterns are all great.  Better to coordinate than match.

How can we have the best experience?
Make sure the children are rested and fed, hanger is real.  Bring along favorite snacks and toys in case crank sets in.  Take the day and plan fun activities for after the shoot, so the kids have something to look forward to if they behave well at their shoot.  Also, relax.  Our kids can sense our stress and frustration, so be sure to enjoy your kids, embrace the chaos, and trust that we will get beautiful images no matter how crazy the shoot feels.  We thrive on kids being themselves and documenting their world, rather than forcing them to sit still and making them feel uncomfortable.  Have fun with it, and they will too.

Where will we shoot my session?
We have many park locations around the Cedar Rapids/Marion area, as well as some downtown locations for those that like a more urban/sophisticated look.  If you have a location that you like or that has meaning to you,  let us know and we will see if it will work for your shoot.  We love to travel and shoot in new locations!

We want to do an extended family, any good ideas for wardrobe?
Of course!  When we do an extended family we suggest that everyone wear clothing in the same color group(s).  They can be lighter, darker or patterned, but in the same color family/families ei: blue and cream - some may wear baby blue while others wear navy, and some may wear cream while others wear ivory or beige.  The other option is to find a cute patterned clothing item and build the rest of the family around those colors.  Once the extended family is done, you can have each family group change into something they prefer for their individual family.  That gives you two looks at the same time.  We are in general a big fan of neutrals as well, as they seem to be timeless, easy to find in all sizes and go with most home decor.

Can we shoot at our house?
Unless you have an acreage or live out of town, it’s unlikely shooting at your house would be ideal, unless you are wanting a lifestyle session.  If you’d like a lifestlye/in-home session, we’d suggest sending us photos so we can ensure your home would have enough natural light for your shoot.
